The OH08B from Omnivision Technologies is an 8 Megapixel CMOS Image Sensor for medical applications. It offers 4K2K resolution and has a rolling shutter that provides a frame rate of 60 fps (4K2K) and a lens size of 1/1.8 inches. This image sensor requires a DC supply of 1.2 V (core), 2.8 V (analog) & 1.8 V (I/O) and consumes 240 mW of power. It can be controlled via an SCCB and 4-lane MIPI/LVDS serial output interface with a maximum speed of up to 1500 Mbps/lane.
The OH08B is based on OmniVision’s Nyxel near-infrared (NIR) technology that offers better performance in color & IR sensitivity, enabling doctors to see sharper video during NIR, fluorescence, chromoendoscopy and virtual endoscopy procedures. The higher sensitivity results in less illumination, thus reducing the heat at the tip of the endoscope. Nyxel technology also provides quantum efficiency (QE) improvement at both the 850 nm and 940 nm NIR wavelengths. The excellent QE allows the use of lower-power IR illumination, resulting in significantly reduced chip-on-tip power consumption.
The OH08B consists of an 11° chief ray angle which enables the use of lenses with high fields-of-view, short-focus distances and pulse width modulation output LED drivers. It has an embedded 2k bits of one-time programmable (OTP) memory, 12-bit ADC and PLL with SSC support. This image sensor supports 2x2 binning, 2-exposure staggered HDR and FSIN. It is stereo ready with frame synchronization to support various depth perception applications and it’s autoclavable for reusable endoscope sterilization.
The OH08B is available in a CSP package that measures 8939.2 x 6340 μm and is ideal for medical endoscopes with a 10-12 mm outer diameter, such as gastroscopes, duodenoscopes, amnioscopes, laparoscopes and colonoscopes.
