The Metavision Sensor from Prophesee is a 3rd generation VGA CMOS image sensor that has a resolution of 640 (H) x 480 (V) pixels in 3/4 inch optical format. It delivers a frame rate of above 10k fps and a dynamic range of over 120 dB with a data rate of up to 1000 obj/s. This vision sensor has a pixel size of 15 x 15 µm and a maximum bandwidth of 66 Meps. It has a low-light cut-off of 0.04 lx with a fill factor of 25 %. This image sensor has a minimum contrast sensitivity of 12% and a latency of 40 - 200 µs.
The Metavision Sensor is an event-based sensor where each pixel intelligently activates itself depending on the contrast change (movement) it detects. This enables the acquisition of only essential motion information, continuously. It drastically reduces the power, latency, and data processing requirements imposed by traditional frame-based systems. This image sensor’s pixel independence and overall architecture enable new levels of power efficiency with just 3nW/event and 26mW at sensor level.
The Metavision Sensor achieves high robustness even in extreme lighting conditions so users can see details from pitch dark to blinding brightness in one same scene, at any speed. It requires a DC supply of 1.8 V and consumes 26 mW of power. This image sensor is available in a mini PBGA package that measures 13 x 15 mm and is ideal for machine vision applications.
