The ISOCELL GN2 from Samsung Semiconductors is a 50 MegaPixel CMOS Image Sensor that is designed for capturing 8K videos and pictures. It supports a normal frame rate of up to 10 fps and a video frame rate of 480 fps at high definition. Built on its predecessor’s (ISOCELL GN1) bidirectional Dual Pixel technology, the image sensor has an autofocus feature that offers low-light focusing for tracking moving objects. It consists of a High Dynamic Range (HDR) mode that captures rich details and colors in both highlights and shadows. The image sensor has an image-processing algorithm that minimizes noise to produce bright and detailed pictures.
The ISOCELL GN2 utilizes the Dual Pixel Pro autofocus technology that enhances its autofocus capabilities by comparing the top, bottom, left, and right phases for optimal focus in any scene. The image sensor is based on Tetrapixel technology which maximizes light reception by combining four pixels into one large, 2.8 μm sized pixel. It is integrated with the ISOCELL GN2’s Smart ISO Pro and staggered-HDR technologies that help maximize its dynamic range, allowing it to produce vibrant photos even in mixed lighting conditions.
