The IMX459 from Sony Semiconductor Solutions Corporation is a Stacked SPAD Depth Sensor that is designed for automotive LiDAR applications. It has a resolution of 597 (H) x 168 (V) in a 1/2.9-type form and a detection range of up to 300 m. This single-chip sensor has a distance measuring processing circuit that uses its 10 μm square single-photon avalanche diode (SPAD) pixels and direct Time-of-Flight (dToF) method to deliver high-precision, high-speed distance measurement. It leverages Sony's technologies such as a back-illuminated pixel structure, stacked configurations and Cu-Cu connections to deliver a photodetection efficiency of up to 24% and a response speed of 6 ns approx. This image sensor can be controlled via a MIPI CSI-2 serial output 4/2 lane interface.
The IMX459 requires a DC supply of 3.3 V (analog), 1.1 V (digital) and 1.8 V (interface). It is available in a 152-pin plastic BGA package that measures 15.65 x 15.35 mm and is ideal for autonomous driving (AD) and advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) applications.
