The VB56G4A from STMicroelectronics is a 1.5 Megapixel Global Shutter CMOS Image Sensor that has a resolution of 1124 (H) x 1364 (V). It delivers a frame rate of up to 88 fps (at full resolution) and a pixel size of 2.61 µm x 2.61 µm. This Backside illuminated (BSI) CMOS image sensor has a linear dynamic range of up to 60 dB and a peak quantum efficiency of 24% (at 940 nm). It produces raw digital video data on a MIPI CSI-2 output interface with a data rate of up to 1.5 Gbps and the image data are digitized using internal 10-bit ADCs. This image sensor is fully configurable through the I²C serial interface and provides flexible frame-to-frame configuration changes via the use of a programmable sequence of 4-frame contexts.
The VB56G4A has a wide, nonvolatile memory (NVM) and embedded temperature sensor. It has 8 programmable general-purpose input/output (GPIO) signals that can be used to enable the synchronization of several sensor readouts or to control strobe light sources during the exposure time. This image sensor exhibits exceptional performance in the near-infrared region (at 940 nm) using pre-eminent 3D stacking and ST patented processes. It features AEC-Q100 grade 2 automotive compliance, embedded auto-exposure, automatic dark calibration, dynamic pixel-defective correction, image cropping, mirror/flip readout, binning and subsampling. This image sensor consumes 145 mW of power at 60 fps. It is available in an OBGA package that measures 6.2 x 6.9 mm and is ideal for automotive driver monitoring applications.
