The CIS115 from Teledyne e2v is a 3 MP CMOS Image Sensor designed for space-borne applications. It is back illuminated and anti-reflection coated to improve quantum efficiency and has a low readout noise of 5 e&ndash rms. The sensor has an image area with 1504 x 2000 pixels, read out through 4 parallel analogue output ports in rolling shutter mode. Each port has both reset and signal levels to allow external CDS subtraction and to improve common mode rejection. The pixel size is 7 µm square. It is available in ceramic pin grid array package. This sensor has now been adopted as the baseline sensor for the JANUS camera instrument on ESA’s JUICE mission to Jupiter and its icy moons to monitor the magnetic fields and charged particles in the Jovian system because it has an improved resistance to radiations.
