The VFI-2000 from Arden photonics is an Interferometric Inspection System that is designed to check the surface quality and flatness of cleaved or polished fibers. It has a 6.4 MP CMOS image sensor and a 12-bit ADC in a 1/1.8 inch optical format that provides a field of view of 2000 μm with x6 digital zoom. This interferometer can analyze fibers of diameter 400-2000 µm in both 2D and 3D allowing users to get a full understanding of the cleaving or polishing process. It can measure a cleave angle of up to 8° in 2 D mode (real-time) and 4° in a 3D mode in under 7 sec.
This interferometer has a height resolution of 0.01 μm and can measure end angle in automated or manual modes. It also has inspect and fringe modes and can also generate a 3D end face height map. The VFI-2000 can be controlled via a USB 3.0 interface which is also used as a power supply. It is available in a benchtop module that measures 240 x 240 x 90 mm and is ideal for fiber R&D, device pigtailing, angled cleaver development/testing, precision cleaver, laser, medical device, specialty fiber, LDF cleaver, fiber end cap and multi-fiber bundle manufacture applications.
