The HPC 50W from II-VI Incorporated is a Multi-Emitter Laser Diode that operates at wavelengths of 915, 940, 980, 1030 or 1060 nm. It delivers an output power of 50W with a power conversion efficiency of over 60% and a slope efficiency of 1 – 1.1 W/A. This laser diode has a spectral width of up to 4 nm and a beam divergence of 5.5 degrees (parallel) & 26 degrees (perpendicular) at FWHM. It has a fill factor of 18% and a wavelength temperature coefficient of 0.3 nm/degree C. This TE polarized laser diode has 10 emitters with an emitter spacing of 500 μm and an emitter width of 90 μm.
The HPC 50W features RoHS compliance and has a single quantum well MBE structure. The proprietary E2 front mirror passivation process prevents Catastrophic Optical Damage (COD) to the laser diode facet even at extremely high output powers. The low bar smile values well below 1μm and small emitter width enhance the fiber coupling efficiency, especially for low core diameters. The 5.4 mm laser diode half-bar is mounted on an expansion-matched sub-mount with a conductively cooled Cu block package providing exceptional reliability in CW and pulsed operation modes.
The HPC 50W requires a threshold current of 4 - 4.7 A and a DC supply of 1.5 - 1.65 V that consumes 50 - 55 A of current. This laser diode is available in a package that measures 24.9 x 24.9 x 14.19 mm and is ideal for material processing (welding, cutting, etc.), collimated solid-state laser pumping, fiber laser pumping, printing, and medical applications.
