The VDL-001 from Luna Innovations is a Manually Variable Optical Delay Line (ODL) that is available in three configurations: single mode (single pass), single mode (double pass), and polarization mode (single pass). It operates at wavelengths of 840 nm, 1060 nm, 1310 nm, or 1550 nm (single mode, single pass), 1310 nm or 1550 nm (single-mode, double pass), and 840 nm, 1060 nm, 1310 nm, 1550 nm (polarization mode, single pass). It has a delay range of up to 330 ps or 600 ps (single-pass) & up to 1200 ps (double pass) and wavelength accuracy of ± 50 nm. This ODL has a readout scale resolution of 0.05 mm and return loss of 50 dB. It has an insertion loss of 1 dB or 1.5 dB (single-pass) and 1.5 dB (double-pass).

The VDL-001 has an insertion variation of ±0.3 dB (for 330 ps model), ±0.5 dB (for 600 ps model), and ±0.7 dB (for 1200 ps model). It has an extinction ratio above 18 dB (for polarisation mode) and polarization-dependent loss (PDL) of 0.1 dB or 0.2 dB (for single mode). This ODL has an optical path variation of greater than 18 cm (600 ps) and supports HI780 or PM Panda (for 840 nm), HI1060 or PM Panda (for 1060 nm) & SMF-28 fiber. It consumes above 300 mW of power and is available in a compact rugged module that measures 4.2" (L) x 2.1" (W) x 1" (H) (330 ps model) or 6" (L) x 2.1" (W) x 1" (H) (600 or 1200 ps model). This ODL is ideal for optical coherence tomography (OCT) systems, passive time division multiplexing, TDM bit alignment, and fiber interferometer applications.
