The Terraspec 4 Hi-Res from Malvern Panalytical is a Portable VIS/NIR Spectrometer that operates at a wavelength of 350 nm - 2500 nm. It has a spectral resolution of 3 nm (at 700 nm) and 6 nm (at 1400/2100 nm). This spectrometer has a wavelength accuracy of 0.5 nm, wavelength reproducibility of 0.1 nm, and scanning time of 100 milliseconds. It has a photometric noise of 48 µAU in the VNIR (at 700 nm) & SWIR 1 (at 1400 nm) regions and 110 µAU in the SWIR 2 (at 2100 nm) region. This spectrometer has 2151 channels with a 512-element NIR-enhanced silicon array VNIR detector and (1001-1800 nm) & (1801-2500 nm) Graded Index InGaAs Photodiode, two-stage TE Cooled SWIR 1 & 2 detectors. It can be connected either using 10/100 Base T Ethernet port with Ethernet cross-over cable or an 802.11g/n wireless card. This spectrometer features de facto technology for measuring the spectral reflectance of minerals.
The Terraspec 4 Hi-Res has additional accessories like Hi-Brite Contact Probe, Hi-Brite Mug Light, rapid analysis probe, small diameter reflectance probe, and a specially designed backpack for increased portability. It can be controlled via RS3 spectral acquisition software, The Spectral Geologist and SpecMin, seamless interface with ENVI®, ASD ViewSpec Pro for post-processing, and Indico® Pro spectral acquisition software. This spectrometer requires a DC supply voltage of 12 V, an AC supply voltage of 90 V - 240 V, and consumes 60 W of power. It is available in a portable handheld package that measures 12.7 cm x 36.8 cm x 29.2 cm and is ideal for mineral exploration, deposit mapping, mineral assemblage identification, drill cuttings analysis, core logging, determining geochemical gradients, clay species delineation and faster vectoring to ore body applications.
