Founded in 2015, Vertilite is an innovative start-up dedicated to developing and marketing high-power and high-speed vertical-cavity surface-emitting laser (VCSEL) and module solutions. With a team of experienced scientists and engineers from the industry, Vertilite has successfully introduced high-performance products for a wide range of applications, including 3D sensing, optical communications, industrial automation, biomedical applications, automotive technologies, consumer electronics, and LiDAR solutions.

Guided by the mission of "Adventum Lux" and driven by a vision to provide the best-quality optoelectronic products and services, Vertilite aspires to become the most reliable partner in the industry. The company’s core values of customer orientation, teamwork, openness, and innovation form the foundation of its commitment to excellence and reliability. Their main application markets include:

Consumer Electronics

3D Sensing

With the rise of the Metaverse and extended reality (MR/VR/AR), spatial information and 3D models have become crucial. Vertilite's VCSEL technology powers devices like iPhone and iPad’s LiDAR, Hololens 3D Kinect, Microsoft’s Azure Kinect, and Huawei Mate50, enabling millimeter-level depth sensing capabilities. These lasers not only facilitate 3D reconstruction but also help MR devices like HoloLens and Magic Leap sense and interact with the world in real-time, enhancing user experiences by allowing digital content to dynamically respond to changes in the physical environment.

Facial Recognition

In China, facial recognition payment systems such as Alipay and WeChat utilize VCSELs through structured light schemes or Time-of-Flight (ToF) technology. Additionally, VCSELs serve as infrared illumination sources in facial recognition smart locks, ensuring secure and efficient access control.

Proximity Detection

Vertilite’s milliwatt VCSELs enable True Wireless Stereo (TWS) earbuds to feature compact yet wide-ranged and reliable in-ear detection functions. These lasers are also integrated into proximity sensors under screens, enhancing the functionality and user experience of various electronic devices.

Automotive Application

Driver and Occupant Monitoring Systems (DMS/OMS)

With Euro NCAP standards and European Commission (EC) regulations mandating driver monitoring systems (DMS) from 2022, and U.S. National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) recommendations for semi-autonomous cars, VCSEL-supported DMS/OMS are becoming essential. These systems, functioning as advanced in-cabin, near-IR cameras, enable vehicles to understand driver and passenger positions, sizes, and actions. Crucial for Level-3 automated driving systems, VCSEL-based illuminators offer better uniformity and narrower FWHM compared to IR-LEDs, leading to superior signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) in both 2D and 3D solutions.

LiDAR

LiDAR, using laser beams instead of microwave radar, benefits significantly from VCSEL technology. The higher frequency of laser diodes offers high resolution, good concealment, strong anti-interference, excellent low-altitude detection, small size, and lightweight. VCSELs outperform LEDs and edge-emitting lasers (EELs) in performance and cost, making them ideal for LiDAR applications. In drones, LiDAR with VCSELs enables altitude holding, terrain simulation, and landing. In vehicles, it provides collision avoidance and autonomous driving. Robots with LiDAR can navigate autonomously, and applications extend to AGV collision avoidance, intelligent transportation, and automatic toll booths.

Medical & Security

Infrared laser light revolutionizes night vision monitoring systems, providing crucial enhancements in imaging quality and target tracking accuracy. Utilizing advanced semiconductor laser diodes, this technology emits high-power infrared beams meticulously controlled by beam-combination mirrors, allowing precise illumination within specific ranges. When integrated with infrared or CCD monochrome cameras, these components form sophisticated night vision monitoring systems capable of capturing clear and detailed imagery even in low-light conditions.

In contrast to passive imaging systems, which often struggle with background radiation and limited resolution, infrared laser light operates actively, illuminating targets regardless of distance or ambient darkness. This active illumination ensures not only sharper imaging but also precise tracking of targets, making it invaluable for surveillance and monitoring applications.

Vertical-Cavity Surface-Emitting Lasers (VCSELs) play a pivotal role in advancing this technology further. Their efficient operation across a wide temperature range makes them ideal for various environmental conditions, while their unique laser homogenization technology, utilizing microlenses, enhances stability and clarity in drone surveillance cameras. By providing consistent performance and improved imaging capabilities, VCSELs contribute significantly to the effectiveness and reliability of infrared laser light systems in surveillance and security applications.

Vertilite maintains an unwavering commitment to providing customers with top-tier performance, consistency, and reliability. The team comprises leading technologists, strategic venture capitalists, and seasoned executives in optoelectronic device design, production, packaging, and applications.
