The MDL-002 from Luna Innovations is a Motorized Variable Optical Delay Line (ODL) available in three configurations and operate at wavelengths of 840 nm, 1060 nm, 1310 nm, or 1550 nm. It has a delay range of up to 330 ps or 560 ps (single-pass) & up to 112p ps (double pass) and wavelength accuracy of ± 50 nm. This ODL has a delay resolution of 0.3 µm or 1 fs per encoder count (single-pass) and 0.6 µm or 2 fs (double-pass). It has an insertion loss of 1 dB (single-pass) & 1.5 dB (single-pass or double-pass) and return loss of 50 dB. This ODL has a polarization-dependent loss (PDL) of 0.1 dB or 0.2 dB and position accuracy & repeatability of ± 3 µm (single-pass) & ± 6 µm (double-pass). It has an extinction ratio above 18 dB (for polarisation mode) and optical damage power threshold of 300 mW. This ODL has 2 x 16 character LCD display and can be controlled via panel keyboard or RS-232 interfaces.
The MDL-002 uses advanced motion design and is driven by a DC motor with an integrated encoder. It supports SMF-28 or PM Panda fiber, HI780 or PM Panda (for 840 nm), and HI1060 or PM Panda (for 1060 nm) fibers. This ODL requires a DC supply voltage of 12 V and consumes up to 1 A of current. It is available in a compact module with an optical head that measures 5.2" (L) x 1.46" (W) x 0.7" (H) (for 330ps), 6.18" (L) x 1.46" (W) x 0.7" (H) (for 560ps or 1120 ps), control unit that measures 7" (L) x 4" (W) x 1.6" (H) (for 330ps), 9" (L) x 4.4" (W) x 1.6" (H) (for 560ps or 1120 ps), and mini controller board that measures 2.56" (L) x 2.56" (W) x 0.85" (H). This ODL is ideal for optical coherence tomography (OCT), optical Fourier spectrum analysis, optical interferometry, optical time division multiplexing (OTDM), fiber sensors, and delay generation and measurement applications.
