The global COVID-19 (corona virus) epidemic has impacted businesses worldwide, irrespective of their service domains. The Photonics/Optics industry, like all, too has seen a global slowdown amid the outbreak of the virus which has now affected almost 198 countries.

And with global health bodies including the WHO recommending against large social gatherings, in order to minimize the risk of spreading the virus at a larger scale, major conferences, expositions as well as sporting events have been either cancelled or postponed. The photonics industry in itself has seen some major events being cancelled or postponed in the past months, the latest being the postponement of LASYS 2020 event by Messe Stuttgart. LASYS - the international trade fair for Laser material processing, has now been rescheduled for 2021. Laser World of Photonics China 2020, scheduled to happen in March, was another major photonics/optoelectronics event which had to be postponed due to safety concerns of the visitors and industry professionals alike.
