Princeton Instruments has introduced 'FERGIE', a fully integrated, aberration-free spectrograph with a built-in, low-noise, cooled detector. Its spectral profiles are completely free from coma and other aberrations, eliminating broadened asymmetric peak profiles. The spectrograph's pre-aligned optical modular spectroscopy cubes, fiber optics and laser sources enable rapid experiment design. Featuring a trim 11” x 7” x 8” profile, it provides the high sensitivity and low noise needed to address a wide range of spectroscopy applications. The ecosystem of easy-to-use accessories, which includes everything from lasers, fiber optics, and calibration sources to the ingeniously designed family of light-coupling FERGIE CUBES, allows scientists, educators, and engineers to put together complete experiments in a matter of minutes. For example, a typical Raman experiment that used to take hours to set up can now be ready in less than 90 seconds!

The competitively priced FERGIE offers spectral resolution (0.13 nm/pixel with a 1200 g/mm grating) that fares very well when compared to the resolution afforded by larger spectrographs with longer focal lengths. Additionally, its diffraction-limited imaging (more than 60 lp/mm spatial resolution throughout the focal plane) yields exceptionally high signal-to-noise ratios and permits multichannel spectroscopy. Every FERGIE spectrograph has a built-in detector that permits high-sensitivity spectral capture from 190 nm to 1100 nm. These eXcelon-enabled CCDs, utilize a frame-transfer, back-illuminated sensor architecture and can be ordered with deep-depletion technology for enhanced near-IR sensitivity.

The new spectroscopy system ships with a full-feature version of powerful FERGIE software, powered by LightField - acclaimed scientific spectroscopy software. Its beautifully rendered, intuitive GUI helps FERGIE users construct experiments in only minutes. The entire list of advanced FERGIE system features is supported, including a built-in timing generator for time-resolved spectroscopy experiments as well as both automated wavelength and intensity calibration via available reference light sources.
