Toshiba Image SensorToshiba Electronics has launched the T4KB3, a 13-megapixel backside illumination (BSI) CMOS image sensor with an optical format of 1/3.07 inch. Compact chip offers reduced power consumption and full-HD video capture at 120fps. The image sensor is ideally suited for use in high end smartphones and tablets.712370

With the growing demand for small form factor chips, destined for ever slimmer mobile devices, the T4KB3 uses newly developed Toshiba design techniques to deliver the world's smallest 13 megapixel sensor. Low power circuitry has reduced power consumption to 53% of that used by the preceding T4K82 image sensor, and the new chip achieves 200mW, or less at 30fps, with full 13 megapixel output.

Image brightness is boosted four fold by utilising Bright Mode technology. T4K82 offers full 1080p HD video capture at 120fps. The sensor is fitted with 8Kbit of One Time Programmable (OTP) memory and lens shading correction data for two conditions can be stored. This permits different correction data for indoor or outdoor use.

The T4K82 measures 8.5 mm x 8.5 mm, with auto focus, and 6.7 mm x 6.7 mm with a static focus.
