The S16101 from Hamamatsu Photonics is a 1.31 Megapixel CMOS Area Image Sensor that has a resolution of 1280 (H) x 1024 (V) (SXGA) pixels. It has a global or rolling shutter that delivers a maximum frame rate of 146 fps with a pixel size of 7.4 µm x 7.4 µm. This image sensor has a pixel pitch of 7.4 µm and an image size of 9.472 mm x 7.578 mm. It has a spectral range of 200 - 1100 nm and peak sensitivity wavelength of 590 nm. This image sensor has a digital input rise/fall time of 5 ns and maximum photoresponse nonuniformity (PRNU) of 4 %.
The S16101 operates in two different modes: High-resolution mode and High-speed mode. The high-resolution mode has a resolution of 12 bit, conversion frequency of 30 kHz, and an A/D resolution of 0.31 mV/DN. It has a photosensitivity of 20000 DN/lx*s (global shutter mode) & 20000 - 160000 DN/lx*s (rolling shutter mode) and dynamic range of 55 dB (global shutter mode) & 57 - 66 dB (rolling shutter mode). This high-resolution mode has a conversion efficiency of 43 nV/e- (global shutter mode) & 43 - 344 nV/e- (rolling shutter mode) and random noise of 5 DN rms (global shutter mode) & 1.7 - 5.2 DN rms (rolling shutter mode). It has a dark output of 100 DN/s (global shutter mode) & 100 - 800 DN/s (rolling shutter mode) and saturation output of 2700 DN (global shutter mode) & 3500 DN (rolling shutter mode).
The S16101's high-speed mode has a resolution of 10 bit, conversion frequency of 150 kHz, and an A/D resolution of 1.25 mV/DN. It has a photosensitivity of 5000 DN/lx*s (global shutter mode) & 5000 - 40000 DN/lx*s (rolling shutter mode) and dynamic range of 53 dB (global shutter mode) & 54 - 60 dB (rolling shutter mode). This high-speed mode has a conversion efficiency of 43 nV/e- (global shutter mode) & 43 - 344 nV/e- (rolling shutter mode) and random noise of 1.5 DN rms (global shutter mode) & 0.7 - 1.4 DN rms (rolling shutter mode). It has a dark output of 25 DN/s (global shutter mode) & 25 - 200 DN/s (rolling shutter mode) and saturation output of 700 DN (global shutter mode & rolling shutter mode).
The S16101 has a back-illuminated active pixel sensor (APS) with a quartz glass window. It includes a built-in timing generator, bias generators, amplifiers, and A/D converters. This image sensor requires a DC supply voltage of 3.3 V (analog), 3 - 3.6 V (digital), and 2.5 V (counter). It is available in an 88-pin ceramic package that measures 18 mm x 16.6 mm and is ideal for UV camera, machine vision, and tracking applications.
