Understanding Optical Time Domian Reflectometers (OTDR)
There are a variety of optical test sets that can be used to ensure quality of service (qos) on fiber optic networks, but only the optical time domain reflectometer (otdr) supports singled ended fiber testing to characterize fibers when measuring total loss, optical return loss (orl), latency and fiber length. since the 1980s, otdrs have been used to characterize fiber links, identify optical events, measure event loss, location, reflectance and identify events that can impact the fiber optic network service using one or two moveable cursors.
