Recent Advancement in Power-over-Fiber Technologies

Power-over-fiber (PWoF) has a considerable mature technology, and its research and development have been conducted since the late 1970s [1,2]. In those days, the cost of PWoF was much higher than those of conventional power lines, such as copper wires, and the performance of related components, such as light sources and photovoltaic power converters (PPCs), had to be improved considerably. However, approximately 40 years have passed since the introduction of PWoF technologies.
