DWDM systems, coherent detection with digital signal processing and the use of Pol-Mux has become standard. The quality of modulated optical signals transmitted in long-distance fiber optic communication systems is frequently characterized by OSNR. In this paper a novel method to calculate OSNR from the correlation between spectral components in the optical spectrum of a transmission signal is proposed.
