Fiber optic splice closures provide the opportunity for three types of fiber optic splicing: aerial, at grade or below grade. The advantages, in both cost and functionality, of aerial splicing are discussed in this paper. Although a sealed splice closure is an option for aerial splicing, a weather-tight breathable splice closure is the most beneficial in this type of fiber installation.
