The purpose of this white paper is to highlight the potential of two important new biomedical research tools to improve our understanding of the adverse health effects from space radiation exposures encountered in long duration space missions and thus enable the development of countermeasures to mitigate these effects. Both tools, complex tissues engineered from human induced pluripotent stem cells and “humanized” mice, allow human tissues to be irradiated with simulated space radiation.
