Multimode fibre remains the preferred economic cabling media in the data centre due to its advantage of utilizing relatively inexpensive transceivers over short (120m) links in the data centre. While multimode fibre is economically preferred, it may be considered to have limitations for very long links (>300m) and for channels requiring several connections (increased insertion loss). In this paper, we will explore the possibility of pushing beyond the standard limits for channel length and loss.
