High-spectral-flatness mid-infrared supercontinuum generated from a Tm-doped fiber amplifier

In this paper, we report a new approach for broadband supercontinuum generation. Rather than using a piece of passive fiber as a nonlinear optical medium, as demonstrated by others in the literature, we demonstrate that high-spectral-flatness midinfrared broadband supercontinuum can be directly generated from a short piece of single-mode Tmdoped gain fiber. Supercontinuum is generated from various nonlinear optical processes in a piece of optical medium in which narrow-band incident light undergoes nonlinear spectral broadening to yield an output light with ultra broad spectrum.
