CMOS linear image sensor is used in a spectrometer and the like, light dispersed according to wavelength enters each pixel. The level of light entering each pixel is different. The variable integration time function can be used to set a long integration time for pixels with low incident light levels and short integration time for those with high incident light levels to enable measurements with high S/N over a wide spectral range.
