A Risley Prism Scanner utilizes two wedge prisms to steer a beam. A wedge prism can be thought of as an optical window with one side ground and polished at an angle in order to refract, or bend, the input light. This Application Note will focus on round wedged prisms; these are effectively cylinders with one surface perpendicular to its curved side that will be referred to as the flat face, and a surface opposite of the flat face that will be referred to as the wedged face.
