Quadrature phase-shift keying (QPSK) modulation has become an important candidate for optical TDM and WDM transmission systems. A key issue for the successful deployment of such advanced modulation formats is the availability of cost-efficient and compact integrated optoelectronic receivers. For 100 Gbit/s transmissions, a polarization-diversity configuration in combination with coherent detection has been suggested in. This dual polarization (DP) QPSK coherent receiver is comprised of eight photo detectors (PDs), four transimpedance amplifiers (TIAs), two 90° hybrid mixers, and polarization beam splitting (PBS) elements.
