Characterization of an Optical Time Domain Reflectometer Calibrator

Optical Time Domain Reflectometers (OTDR) are instruments used to characterize the suitability of an optical fiber network for its intended use and to determine the location of faults in the network such as broken fibers or poor connections. An OTDR emits a pulse of optical radiation at nominally the same wavelength as the one used by the optical fiber based transmission system that is being tested.
