Flat-top laser beams with uniform beam intensity distribution at the center and a sharp beam edge are useful for optical image processing, laser welding, laser radar, laser microfabrication, laser scanning, optical storage, and optical metrology. Flat-top laser beams can be realized by converting a Gaussian beam from a single transverse mode laser using an optical beam shaper.
