EXFO’s optical spectrum analyzer, the OSA20, includes an OFA mode with a range of analysis tools for accurate, quick and easy characterization of optical fiber amplifier parameters. In this application note, the performance of different erbium-doped fiber amplifiers (EDFAs) is assessed by measuring the gain and noise figure in the amplification of two optical sources: a tunable laser (T100S-HP) and a DWDM laser source composed of several OSICS DFB modules.
