One major hurdle to deploying fi ber-to-the-home (FTTH) is the cost involved in rolling out the fiber all the way to subscriber premises. On the other hand, the biggest advantage of FTTH is the considerably higher speeds than what current DSL technologies can offer. A recent report by Infonetics pointed out that though GPON and FTTH are maintaining strong growth rates, the market split is still predominantly in favor of twisted copper pair technologies like VDSL2.
