The IEEE 1588v2 Precise Time Protocol (PTP) is a standard for synchronization distribution across a packet network using packet exchange. This standard is raising a strong interest within the operator community, as transition toward all-packet networking is ongoing and operators must fi nd ways to maintain or deploy synchronization across their networks. As PTP consists of a packet exchange across the network, the PTP fl ow is a service that can experience the same network events as other fl ows, such as frame loss, delay and congestion.
