Optimizing TEC Drive Current

Download Whitepaper
Thermoelectric coolers (TECs) are widely used for controlling the temperature of a variety of laser packages and chip sizes by pumping away thermal energy (heat) that would otherwise cause the chip temperature to rise uncontrollably. TECs rely on the Peltier Effect, whereby driving current through P- and N-type semiconductor materials will cause them to transfer heat. This Application Note discusses methods for optimizing the TEC drive current for optimum operation in heating and cooling applications.
