Every operator wants to know the health of their network, but many are surprised to learn how poorly some subscriber network connections are performing. In many cases, only subscribers with service level agreements (SLAs) such as enterprise subscribers and the operators themselves are afforded a proactive 24x7 monitoring system. SLAs are extremely rare (or non-existent) in the residential DSL, Gfast and FTTH markets. However, in recent years many operators have started taking responsibility for ensuring that data, VoIP and IPTV services are being delivered right-up to and including the end equipment inside the residential subscriber’s premise. This ensures that before a technician leaves the premise, whether after completing a first-time installation or responding to a repair or troubleshooting call, the operator knows things were done right.
