Silicon photodiodes are veeing used routinely in military systems in ring laser gyros, rubidium frequency standards, fiber optic links, laser range finders, Position sensors and ocean communication systems. This has led to testing of the reliability and radiation hardness aspect of silicon silicon photodiodes. Reliability aspects of more advanced photodiodes have recently been reviewed.
