The response time performance of lateral effect positionsensitive detectors (PSD) and its correlation with the illumination spot location within the active area is not trivial. To a certain extent, difficulties in understanding this problem came from attempts to interpret the lateral photovoltaic effect in terms of “resistances”—inter-element resistance (IER) and series resistance of the photodiode.
