This publication reports a new luminescent complex based on europium as a luminescent reporter and two attached platinum acetylide terpyridyl units as DNA recognition units. The complex is a potential DNA sensor showing a threefold increase in europium luminescence upon binding to DNA, whereas other lanthanide-based probes present a decrease in signal. An Edinburgh Instruments FLS1000 Spectrometer was used to characterise the luminescent lifetime of the newly developed probe.
