Amounts of the gases in the fuel varies, depending on the source and changes that arise from differential boil-off during storage and transportation. Different compositions in natural gas and LNG produce different combustion characteristics. This is, in part, due to the fact that the energy density of the fuel is the sum of the recoverable energy from chemical combustion plus any energy recoverable by returning all reaction products to 25˚C or other standard temperatures (this is the higher heating value [HHV] of the fuel).
