The use of digital micromirror (MEMS) devices can offer both size and speed advantages in the application of spectral tuning of external cavity lasers, when compared to current mechanical actuators. The low mass of the micromirrors enables extremely rapid response, and their small size provides ample opportunities for additional integration into compact laser systems
