This technical note details the use of Newport XPS Series Universal Controller to control a Galvo 2-axis scanner head. The XPS controller has the ability to drive galvanometric scanners as well as various different types of motors based on stepper, DC, brushless, voice coils and piezoelectric. With advanced features like Position Velocity Time (PVT) Control Trajectory mode, XPS-GCODE software and multiple analog and digital I/O’s, it is possible to synchronize the motion between Newport precision linear stages and a galvo scanner, as well as to modulate the laser beam output amplitude and to control the shutter timing. This technical note includes a basic summary of hardware and software configurations for using (2) XMS series linear stages and Cambridge Technology model PS1-10 Pro series 2-axis scanner head.
