The Tamoil SA refinery in Collombey has been producing a wide range of finished products since the 1960s, including various types of fuels and heating oils as well as liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), the latter of which is used as an alternative fuel for vehicles and as a raw material for the petrochemical industry. LPG, which consists of C3 and C4 hydrocarbons, constitutes only about three percent of the refinery’s production. Nevertheless, it is highly significant because it is sold for use in LPGpowered vehicles, and – most importantly during wintertime – is used as a blending ingredient in liquid fuels.
