Over the last decade near infrared (NIR) spectroscopy has increasingly developed to become an indispensable analytical tool for production and quality control in the pharmaceutical industry.1–4 Thus, qualitative NIR investigations are frequently applied for the identity control of incoming raw materials whereas quantitative analysis of the final product is an important step in the pharmaceutical process chain. However, the majority of pharmaceutical analyses are still performed by taking the sample in the production site and transporting it to the quality control laboratory that is located separately from the process.
