Cell-based assays are commonly used in drug discovery as well as in basic and clinical research activities. They provide predictive model systems that allow researchers to observe physiological responses of cells to pharmacological agents and environmental conditions. High-throughput cellular screening assays enable rapid analysis of many compounds for their effects on specific targets.
