Designing transmit optical amplifiers for the current roll out of optical communication constellations
The benefits photonics offers over traditional RF/microwave technology are well known however the development of amplifiers for higher power systems has proved an obstacle until now. In the paper, they discuss the challenges in designing high-power amplifiers for optical communication constellations. Specifically, the suppression of amplified spontaneous emission (ASE) the suppression of stimulated Brillouin scattering (SBS), and the degradation of the required kHz sinusoid amplitude modulated tracking tone during amplification.
