Since its introduction at electronica 2016, the ISELED technology, based on a true “digital LED”, has garnered immense appreciation and acceptance across the industry. This is also reflected in the overall growth of the ISELED Alliance, which has set itself the goal of offering a comprehensive system solution – an ecosystem – around ISELED technology.
The ISELED Alliance is an open industrial alliance with the objective of developing a comprehensive ecosystem – i.e. a complete system solution for innovative automotive lighting based on ISELED technology. The alliance was founded in autumn 2016 and presented for the first time together with ISELED technology on 8 November 2016 at electronica in Munich.
Starting with initially five members, the number of alliance members supporting ISELED has now doubled in the last few weeks alone from 11 (as of November 2018) to 22 companies. The spectrum ranges from semiconductor manufacturers and lighting/design specialists to major Tier 1 automotive suppliers. This covers the entire value chain in order to establish ISELED as a standard solution – in future also beyond the confines of the automotive industry.
According to Robert Kraus, CEO of Inova Semiconductors - the latest company to join the alliance, ISELED is pursuing the high dynamism in the lighting sector for the automotive as well as the automated and autonomous driving sector. In future, the possibilities will go far beyond interior lighting, for which ISELED was originally conceived. The close cooperation with the alliance partners in particular makes it possible for the members to realize a dynamic display backlight with ISELED, which spontaneously has been called an “OLED killer”.
Inova Semiconductors, according to Kraus, is working on the first systems for outdoor lighting – including car-human communication – and are currently introducing an ISELED-based fieldbus, the ICN (ISELED Communication Network), which will in future not only connect lighting elements but also sensors and actuators.

The broad spectrum of the new alliance members will give a further boost to ISELED's already strong momentum: in addition to LED manufacturers such as Brightek from Taiwan or ITSWELL from Korea, Allegro MicroSystems from the USA – manufacturer of power and sensor semiconductors, the Bamberg-based company UG-System for test systems and iSYS RTS from Munich for software development joined the alliance.
Lightworks from Holzkirchen and feno from Oberhaching – both located in the Munich area – specialize in lighting design and the development of the corresponding electronics, also announced support for ISELED. The company Novem from Vorbach (Bavaria), which sees itself as a world market leader for high-quality trim parts and decorative functional elements in vehicle interiors, is also a new member of the alliance. Likewise, the globally operating Prettl group from Pfullingen (Baden Württemberg), which offers the complete package of sophisticated, high-quality lighting and plastic modules/systems for vehicle interiors and exteriors. Hella and Grupo Antolin, two further leading automotive suppliers for the lighting sector have also been enriching the ISELED ecosystem.
