Spectral Evolution, a recognized global leader in the design and manufacturing of laboratory and field-portable UV-Vis-NIR spectrometers and spectroradiometers, has announced the updated release of EZ-ID™, a powerful module built into the Windows® based DARWin SP interface. DARWin SP is Spectral Evolution’s proprietary data acquisition and analysis software, included for free with all their field spectrometers and spectroradiometers. Designed for both field and laboratory use, EZ-ID immediately analyses spectral reflectance and matches it against extensive mineral libraries offering geologists fast, accurate results wherever they are located.

Using portable Spectral Evolution mining series of spectrometers such as the oreXpress®, oreXplorer®, and oreXpert®, EZ-ID supports real-time identification from the USGS library, optional SpecMIN, and the comprehensive GeoSPEC High-Resolution libraries. Together, these collections provide access to over 2,700 spectra covering more than 700 minerals, enabling nuanced field analysis.

Key Features of EZ-ID Include:

  • Instant mineral matches: Immediately identify unknown samples against known spectra.
  • Multiple spectral libraries: Choose between USGS, SpecMIN, and GeoSPEC for up to 2,700 spectra.
  • Custom Library Builder: Easily develop project-specific libraries with tailored metadata.
  • File processing: .SED & .ASD file compatibility
  • Match region support: Focus on diagnostic absorption features to improve identification accuracy and unmix spectrally complex rocks and minerals.
  • Scalars: Gain deeper insights into mineral crystal structure, alteration states, and geochemical context.
  • Batch processing: Export multiple scan results to Excel (XLS, CSV, or tab-delimited)

This powerful software is ideal for a wide variety of geological applications, including core logging, outcrop surveys, pit analysis, and mineral exploration, helping users reduce drilling costs and improve decision-making accuracy in the field and lab.
