art photonics, a pioneer in fiber optic solutions for spectroscopy, has expanded its FlexiSpec® line with two specialized Raman probes designed to meet the growing needs of real-time analytical technologies: the Raman Fiber Probe and the Needle Fiber Raman Probe. Together, they represent a balance of industrial-grade durability and precision performance across both research and applied environments.
The Raman Fiber Probe exemplifies versatility and rugged design. Its bifurcated configuration allows direct connection to both a laser and a spectrometer, ensuring seamless integration with Raman systems. It is available in two main designs - single-wavelength models, operating at 532 nm or 785 nm, and multi-wavelength models covering the range from 630 to 785 nm. This flexibility can be further extended with customer-specific requests for excitation wavelengths between 405 and 1064 nm. Such options allow the probe to capture Raman spectra across the crucial fingerprint region from 800 to 1800 cm-1, as well as the high-wavenumber region from 2800 to 3800 cm-1.
Industrial reliability lies at the core of this probe’s construction. With optical density values greater than 6, the filters effectively block unwanted laser lines, while transmission for Raman-shifted signals exceeds 95% and laser throughput remains above 80%. Built with stainless-steel shafts and housings, sapphire AR-coated windows, and fused silica AR-coated lenses, the probe is designed to endure extreme conditions. It operates in temperatures ranging from -20 °C up to 200 °C, with higher resistance up to 300 °C available on request, and withstands pressure up to 100 bar. These features make it suitable for use in laboratory setups, pilot plants, and fully automated production systems.
The probe offers additional flexibility with shaft sizes of 12 mm or 6 mm, total lengths of around 200 mm or 100 mm, respectively, and fiber assemblies of approximately 2 meters in total. Connections are available in FC/PC or SMA905 formats, with optional liquid-tight protective tubing for enhanced reliability. Its compatibility with standard process interfaces such as Swagelok fittings and flanges allows easy integration into existing systems and ensures cleanable, in-line installations.
These specifications make the Raman Fiber Probe particularly well-suited for a wide range of applications, from real-time reaction monitoring and Process Analytical Technology (PAT) to analytical characterization in biopharmaceutical development, chemical processing, and biofuel production. Its combination of optical precision and mechanical strength ensures consistent performance where reliability is essential. Turning to the Needle Fiber Raman Probe, art photonics highlights its role under the FlexiSpec® branding within the Near-IR and visible spectral domains
By offering both the robust Raman Fiber Probe and the highly focused Needle Fiber Raman Probe, art photonics addresses the dual demands of industrial process monitoring and precision analytical research. These probes extend the scope of in-line Raman spectroscopy, enabling users to capture high-quality spectral data across a broad range of environments, from manufacturing floors to medical laboratories.
