DepthQ, a stereoscopic visualization technology brand developed by Lightspeed Design, provides passive 3D projection systems engineered for digital cinema, simulation, medical visualization, and immersive display applications. The company’s solutions combine high-speed polarization modulation, advanced optical efficiency, and compact system integration to deliver bright, low-crosstalk stereoscopic imagery for professional environments.

At the core of the company’s cinema technology is the DepthQ Standard Polarization Modulator, a liquid crystal-based optical device that rapidly alternates polarization states in synchronization with left- and right-eye image sequences from a digital projector. When paired with a silver screen and passive polarized glasses, the system enables viewers to perceive stereoscopic 3D content without the need for active shutter eyewear.

The modulator is designed around proprietary liquid crystal switching technology capable of symmetrical switching speeds of approximately 50 microseconds, enabling extremely short dark times between frames. This high-speed operation helps reduce ghosting and crosstalk while maintaining brighter projected images compared with slower polarization systems. The technology also supports emerging high-frame-rate (HFR) cinema formats operating at 192 FPS, 240 FPS, and beyond.

DepthQ’s 3D cinema platform also includes the CineBright™ 3D Light Recycler, a patented optical enhancement system designed to improve overall light efficiency. By recycling and reusing portions of otherwise lost polarized light, CineBright can significantly increase brightness levels in large theater installations while preserving image quality and polarization separation.

The company emphasizes high optical efficiency, low crosstalk, and thermal durability. Its systems incorporate advanced heat-protection mechanisms and nano-scale metal-on-glass polarizers, enabling operation with high-brightness lamp and laser projection systems delivering tens of thousands of lumens. This allows deployment in large cinema screens and immersive visualization environments without compromising optical stability.

Beyond cinema, DepthQ technology has been used in a wide range of stereoscopic applications, including virtual reality, scientific visualization, medical imaging, surgical planning, aerospace simulation, engineering design, and pharmaceutical visualization. The company’s client base has included organizations such as NASA, Walt Disney Imagineering, DreamWorks Animation, Microsoft, and multiple research institutions and hospitals.

DepthQ has also developed stereoscopic projection systems such as the HDs3D2 projector, which integrates high-definition 3D projection with support for HDMI 1.4 formats, active shutter glasses, DLP Link systems, and passive polarization workflows. These projectors were designed to deliver large-format immersive 3D visualization with high contrast ratios and frame rates up to 144 Hz. By combining high-speed liquid crystal modulation, passive polarization optics, and high-brightness stereoscopic projection technologies, DepthQ continues to support advanced 3D visualization applications across cinema, simulation, research, and professional imaging industries.
