The ISOCELL HM3 from Samsung is a 108 MegaPixel CMOS Image Sensor. It has a normal frame rate of 10 fps and a video frame rate of 240 fps @FHD. The sensor is equipped with small 0.8 μm-sized pixels and can take clear and bright 12 MP photos in dim lighting. For faster auto-focus, this sensor integrates an enhanced phase-detection autofocusing (PDAF) solution that helps to keep moving subjects in sharp focus and delivers optimum results in dark environments. In mixed-light environments, such as at the end of a tunnel, the HM3 adopts Smart ISO Pro, a high-dynamic-range (HDR) imaging technology that uses an intra-scene dual conversion gain (iDCG) solution. This technology simultaneously captures a frame in both high and low ISO and merges them into a single image in 12-bit color depth and with reduced noise.
This sensor improves the light sensitivity by 50-percent to capture brighter and clearer results in low-light environments than its predecessor. It supports seamless transitions between 108 MP and 12 MP resolutions by merging nine neighboring pixels. The sensor can capture sharper and more vivid images in ultra-high resolution with faster auto-focus and extended dynamic range. It is optimized to reduce energy usage under preview mode by 6.5-percent, offering added power efficiency to the overall mobile device.
