| Researchers Develop Ultra-Compact Camera the Size of a Salt Grain |
Princeton University
|
| Researchers at Princeton University and the University of Washington have developed an ultracompact camera the size of a coarse grain of salt. Micro-sized cameras have great potential to spot problems in the human body and enable sensing for super-small robots. The new ultracompact camera can produce crisp, full-color images on par with a conventional compound camera lens 500,000 times larger in volume. |

| Researchers Demonstrate Ultra-Short Femtosecond-Pulse Emission from a Quantum Cascade Laser |
Institute for Quantum Electronics
|
| The first demonstration of direct femtosecond-pulse emission from a quantum cascade laser in the mid-infrared region paves the path towards novel applications of ultrashort laser pulses. An advance in the group of Prof. Jérôme Faist at the Institute for Quantum Electronics demonstrated for the first time the generation of powerful femtosecond (10–15 s) pulses in the mid-infrared region. |
